Thank you for your interest in joining the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony and Concert Orchestra!
This website will allow you to schedule your audition, track the status of your audition afterwards, and gain access to members-only information once you’ve joined one of the orchestras, should you pass your audition.
The system will create an account for each student and for at least one parent or guardian per student. Families can pay the audition fee from either the student’s or a parent’s/guardian’s account. If you are registering multiple siblings, you must submit one registration form for each student, but you may use the same parent account(s).
If you are already a member of the Youth Symphony or Concert Orchestra, please log into your existing student account and choose the “Audition for Next Year” link at the top of the page.
NOTE: We are asking students to upload a video recording of their prepared audition piece, scales and sight reading rather than scheduling in-person auditions. Please use the student account for the audition, uploading the video through this site. To avoid bias, we will remove the video portion of the file and provide only the audio (without your name) to the judges, but pre-screeners will use the video to make sure you have performed your own audition. Instructions for what to include in the video will be provided on the audition form.
A note about email addresses: The platform this site is built on requires that each account have a unique email address. We understand this might be a challenge for some families who share an email for the family or younger students who don’t have email yet. There are a couple tricks you can use to get around this:
- GMail ignores periods in the part of the email address before the @. You can add and remove periods to create an email that looks unique to this site that will still reach you. Examples: myaccount@gmail.com, my.account@gmail.com, my.ac.count@gmail.com
- Many other providers allow you to put a + after the end of your username portion (the part in front of the @) and then any word after it, and still deliver to you. Examples: myaccount@example.com, myaccount+student@example.com, myaccount+dave@example.com
- Please try sending an email to such an address and make sure it reaches you before using it to sign up.
If you get the message “You are already registered” above, please click here to log out in a new window (it will show you a log in form: don’t log in!), then close that window and reload this page.
